Hellu,
It’s finally here- my frog post (: here’s the story, and the pictures to go along with it, of us getting our first pets together as a couple: two white’s tree frogs!
We prepped about a week in advance by getting the tank kit (which included bedding, light, humidity and temperature gauge, etc.) and some other plants & things the froggies would need for their home. We got a big pond for their water bowl so they can take a dip to cool off and get hydrated (they drink through their skin). We also got lichen sticks to hold humidity, bendy vines for them to climb and bask on, leaves for them to hide behind, and a big branch for them to perch on! Most everything we bought to prep would be one-time purchases besides bedding and food of course. With that said, it cost a bit but didn’t bother us cause we wouldn’t have to pay that amount on a regular basis…
The next step was bringing the frogs themselves home. I mentioned before that we had some trouble tracking down this particular breed, but managed to finally find a few in Charlottesville. Justin, being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, drove us out to pick them up! We chose which ones we wanted, the man at Petco put them in a little carrying box, and we brought our babies home…
Now for the pictures of our new friends! We named them Fear & Misery from a song that we like ^ they hid from us the first night, but came to check out their surroundings the morning after…
The smaller, lighter colored one is Fear (we think he’s either younger than the other frog or a male) and the larger, darker one is Misery- we’re pretty sure she’s a female due to her shape and size. Besides their first morning at home, they’re living up to their names so far. Fear loves to hide and sleep under the leaves, while Misery likes to lay in the heat of the lamp all day long.
They are very much enjoying their new living space as they’ve taken full advantage of their big pond and all the plants to hop on! Misery even gave Justin a high-five through the glass ^ HOW CUTE
After a whole week of anxiously waiting (you’re supposed to leave them alone for at least a week so they can get accustomed to their new environment), we got to take them out and play for a bit! We were mostly trying to get them to eat or see if they’d interact. We achieved the latter only after we’d put them back in the terrarium ^ when Misery decided to have a nice sit right on top of Fear as he was hanging out in their food bowl lol
As far as handling them, we make sure to wash our hands with a gentle/non-scented soap and only have them on our skin for like 30 minutes maximum. They can still get sick from us, but we’re being very careful to make sure that doesn’t happen (: they look slimy, but actually feel soft and almost sticky. Luckily- they don’t leave any kind of residue on the skin, which is a plus in my book!
We’re in love with our pet froggos and I’m obsessed with taking photos of them ^ as you can see! I’ll definitely be posting more of them on here and my other social media outlets. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment (:
Aww they look so cute and delicate (I’d be afraid I’d hurt them). Love how their personalities match their names! Do they try to roam far when they are out of their tank or do they want to stay in your hands?

Thanks! They try to stay on our hands and arms when we take them out (cause they like the warmth of us), but once we get them on the little mat we lay out- they want to hop around a lot!

Fear and Misery are so adorable!! They’re so tiny! How big would they get? Or are they the type that would stay fairly small? I’m excited to hear more about them š

Aww haha if they do end up being opposite genders and decide to start a family of their own, I guess we’ll just have to get a bigger tank! We will eventually anyway once they get bigger (:

Haha that’s nice though, we are the same way with the kitties where we live! The frogs we see around the property are never bigger than a quarter (:

The ones we find in our (gated) backyard, waiting for us by the door, are bigger than my palm. And they might have some weight issues too

Wouldn’t that be adorable though if they could? Haha Misery has done a few chirps, so she might end up being male if she starts croaking š¤·š»āāļø thanks so much for your kind words!

OMG THEY’RE SO CUTEEEEE!!! When I was younger, my friends thought frogs were slimy and gross but I always found them fascinating. I mean come on, mini creatures that jump around – what more could you want? š But this only applies to baby frogs because toads and large frogs freak me out. It’s okay though, I’d love to see them grow through the screen – as long as I’m not touching them. š

Haha yeah, toads are a lot bigger and scarier looking! Our froggies are getting more adjusted to their new home every day (: they’re loving life haha and we love watching them- thanks so much for your comment

They look so fragile! Looks like their skin is almost transparent. You created a lovely home for them. An unusual choice for a pet though! šššššššš

Right? It’s hard to realize they aren’t and to learn you won’t hurt them when you pick them up haha funny you should mention the skin cause some frogs are see-through! Thanks for your lovely comment xoxo

They are too much! Did you quickly fall in love with the lil things? I got a turtle for my daughter’s birthday, and I never knew how much I would get attached to the little creature. I have always had a general love for all animals, but it changes once you actually have one not so normal one in your care.
