I’m so excited to share today’s post with you all! I’m going to be explaining the story of how we recently adopted our sweet Rowan!

She’s a 2-year old soft grey tabby that recently had a litter of kittens who had already been given to homes by the time we went to adopt her (even though we weren’t specifically looking for any certain age cat).

Previously, Sparkle

At our local Petsmart ^ her name was Sparkle & we had been coming in to see her for the past few months. After Oscar passed away in the beginning of November, we were really considering adopting her (as we were surprised she was still there). I put in our application before our wedding & they let us know literally the day after we got married that we could do a meet n greet as soon as we got home from the honeymoon!

She’s home

We were warned how very shy/timid she is ^ this was obviously fine by us & we weren’t going to pressure her into anything she wasn’t ready for or not comfortable with…

Luckily, she immediately went to “her room” first when stepping out of the cat carrier once we got home the day we adopted her. She hid behind the washer & dryer for a little while, but once she came out, we made it so she could only go one way in that space & that helped her realize she prob shouldn’t be back there lol just to keep her safe. We had bought a ton of new cat stuff the previous day in preparation for her moving in. We got a new cat stand, new litter box (although the same model cause it’s huge), and new bowls/toys/food/litter/bed(s), etc.

Caught on camera

We set up our 3rd (indoor) security camera in her room ^ it’s been so fun & funny to watch her whether it’s at night with the night-vision or just while I’m sitting on the couch…wondering what she’s doing in there!

Slowly emerging

Over the course of that first week ^ we got her out of her shell a little bit with calm, slow movements. We also tried to be quieter with her while still going about our daily routines just to not scare her. She managed to come out of her room a few times over the threshold of the kitchen into the living room

So proud!

Getting used to us

She’s coming out of her room more often ^ she lets us rub her belly, she doesn’t run away when we walk in the room (at least not every time now), and Justin & I even got to pick her up a few times which will be good for future vet checkups when we have to figure out a way to get her IN to the carrier lol but in conclusion…we’ve just been so happy & our hearts are so full having a cat in the house again. We still really miss Oscar, but having a new fur friend to care for is so helpful for healing & I’m glad we could give her a loving home after all those months ❤

If you have any questions about her or the process of us getting her, feel free to ask me in the comments cause I know I didn’t go into too much detail today. I don’t mind answering though- so don’t be shy! Thanks so much if you’ve read until the end. I always appreciate the support here. I also hope you all have a wonderful weekend xo
